Add a zipper to a tote bag

I have a couple tote bags that even though I love carrying them around I get a bit anxious about not having a way to close them up if I need to. Here’s how I tackled this problem!

For this project you will need:

tote bag
zipper
grosgrain ribbon
sewing machine or needle & thread
matching thread
scissors

1. Cut 6 pieces of ribbon that are as long as your zipper. Pin and sew the first two pieces on each side of the zipper.

3. Repeat until you’ve sewn three pieces of ribbon to each side of the zipper. Press your seams as flat as possible.

2. Add another piece of ribbon to each side like so and sew along.

4. Pin and sew to your bag. 5. Finish by sewing diagonally across the corners.
