Ok, so like I said on Tuesday, I was looking for a cute and original way to display my custom bobby pins for the Radio Boogie bazaar I’ll be in next week. If you checked out the roundup then you know there isn’t that much inspiration out there.

So after a lot of thought and research I decided to take this vintage packaging idea and make it bigger to suit a display.

So let’s get to it!

You will need:

– black and white printout of your chosen image. Silhouettes and profiles work best, or just use the one I used. (click on image to enlarge)

3 – Glue chopstick on the back of the image.

Now, I want to share my failed attempts at getting the head to stand up….First I tought of using my studded hair comb as a temporary and easily transported way…hm…

The display without the bobby pins stands fine on the comb BUT once I added the pins it was too top heavy and toppled over… Next, I thought I’d make a pull out stand with a popsicle stick and some duct tape….yep….you guessed it:

Again…not sturdy enough for the weight of the bobby pins. So after I almost gave up, inspiration struck when I found a broken plastic hook I had lying around. (never throw out anything kids!) If you don’t have a broken plastic hook like the one I used, find something similar and cut or break it to fit.

So that brings us to step 4

4 – Glue hook next to the chopstick with hot glue.

and finally

5 – Slide hook into the bottle and that’s it, the display is now strong enough to hold the weight of a LOT of bobby pins!
