Like I mentioned in a previous post, my health hasn’t been the best lately…

I was diagnosed with cholecystitis (acute inflammation of the gallbladder) and gallstones a few days after Thanksgiving and had to spend 10 days in hospital for treatment. What that also meant was that I had to be scheduled for gallbladder removal surgery and go on a NO-fat diet for the two months till the surgery and one month after. No fun, right? Well, not exactly…I mean, sure it’s hard avoiding fat because like sugar and salt it’s everywhere in pretty much everything we eat, but it really wasn’t that bad. For starters I lost more than 10kg(about 20lbs) in two months and my energy levels went through the roof! Granted I did take supplements like spirulina and vitamin C every day because hey, when you eat steamed potatoes almost every day you don’t really get all the nutrients you need…I have to say the hardest part for me was not being able to eat salad and vegetables other than potatoes and carrots. So after the two month diet and my surgery, while recovering, my best friend gave me a very interesting documentary to watch: “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” by Joe Cross.I’m not going to get into details but if you’re at all interested in your health and nutrition then you should watch it. The main subject of the film is juicing and how good it is for you so I pretty much immediately caught the bug and decided to try it out in an attempt to re-introduce my stomach to all the fruit and vegetable goodness it\’s been missing all these months.queenlila_juicing_beetred002It’s been a week since I started and I love it so far! It’s amazing when you gather up your ingredients and realize how many nutrients you\’re getting from just one glass of juice. So, in case you’re a fellow juice addict or you’re thinking of starting to juice I’d love to share four recipes I’ve been making this past week. Let’s start with my favorite so far, I call it spicy salty because even though there is no salt added it tastes really salty! It’s a trip for your taste buds trust me!
