It’s been really chilly lately here in little ol’ Athens so my lips have been really feeling it, i.e. they were really chapped!
But not anymore! This DIY lip balm recipe is super easy to make and you can easily customize it too.
Try substituting the sunflower oil with sweet almond oil, coconut oil or sesame seed oil, the shea butter with cocoa or mango butter, and the tangerine essential oil with peppermint or vanilla (yum!).
I also like that this recipe yields a small batch (3 lip balm tubes and one recycled Carmex pot) but if you double it you can make more for your friends!
so let’s make some:
DIY lip balm
You will need:
1 Tbsp Sunflower oil
1/2 Tbsp beeswax
1/2 Tbsp shea butter
10-15 drops tangerine essential oil
small scraping of lipstick (optional)
small jar or bottle
lip balm tubes & jars
Step one
Combine oil, beeswax, and butter in the jar
Step two
Add to simmering water bath (bain-marie) until the beeswax is completely melted
Step three
Remove from heat and if you want colored lip balm, add the lipstick and stir
Step four
Add the essential oil and stir
Step five
Empty out in your containers and that’s it!
Enjoy your new lip balm!
