Hey there! So if you watch my vlogs then you know I was knitting a shawl with this amazing Merino wool yarn from the yarn company, SKEINO.
They sent me their Startup Shawl kit in Turandot which as you can see, is a bright mix of primary colors and the yarn is dyed in such a way that when you knit with it, the finished look is a really cool effect of waves of color.
Now this is a beginner pattern but it will challenge you to take your knitting one step further. You start with 6 basic rows and then you just keep repeating the same 10 pattern rows. As long as you use your stitch markers you can pretty much keep knitting without even looking at the pattern after a while.
Here are a few tips that made it easier for me to breeze through this:
- Pay attention to mark the center stitch on every row without fail! It will make it so much easier to do the stitch increments in the pattern rows.
- Use the plastic bag that the kit came in to keep your ball of yarn from rolling around and getting dirty or tangled.
- I like to use the app StitchMinder (which is free, yay!) to keep track of rows or stitches, or both!
If you want to try this out for yourself you can check out the guide I created with the pattern over on Guidecentral and get some yarn from SKEINO using the code GUIDECENTRAL to get 10% off. Check out the shawl in action here.
And if that’s not enough to get you to try SKEINO you should know that by buying SKEINO yarn you’re supporting a socially responsible company. All yarns are hand painted by people with Special needs in Germany and packed by LARC, Inc., a company working with people with developmental disabilities in Fort Myers / Florida.
Super gorgeous yarn and good karma?! It’s a win-win if you ask me.
